Marketmen said the rise in maize prices was mostly due to strong demand in the spot markets from cattle-feed and poultries amid tight arrivals.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, maize for delivery in current month was trading notably higher by Rs 18, or 1.38 per cent, to Rs 1,325 per quintal, in an open interest of 4,670 lots.
On similar lines, most-active delivery in June gained Rs 13, or 0.97 per cent, to Rs 1,359 per quintal, with a business turnover of 23,180 open lots.
