Extending its upward march, maize prices were up by Rs 26 to Rs 1,475 per quintal in futures trading today as participants raised their bets largely on the back of a firm trend at the spot markets.
At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, maize for delivery this month contracts was trading higher by Rs 26 or 1.79 per cent to Rs 1,475 per quintal, open interest seen of 830 lots.
Also, delivery in May month contracts gained Rs 12 or 0.96 per cent to Rs 1,262 per quintal, with an open interest of 9,160 lots.
The rise in maize prices at futures trade was mostly attributed to widening of positions by speculators driven by strong demand against tight supplies in the physical markets.
