Punjab's Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia today submitted his apology to the Jathedar Akal Takhat, head of the supreme temporal seats of the Sikhs, for distorting the sacred hymn "Gurbani" while canvassing for BJP's Amritsar candidate Arun Jaitley.
Jathedar Akal Takht Gyani Gurbachan Singh said, "the issue would be discussed in the meeting of five Sikh head priests in the coming days and Majithia will have to appear before the Sikh clergy on being summoned."
Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa had yesterday demanded strict action as per the Sikh religious code of conduct against Majithia for the alleged blasphemy.
Majithia was reported to have changed a word in the concluding part of Guru Gobind Singh's hymn to tailor it to suit his wish for Jaitley's victory.
Congress' Amritsar Lok Sabha candidate Amarinder Singh today demanded the Election Commission to ban Majithia from campaigning in the state for his act of distorting the Guru Gobind Singh's written hymn.
