Major fire at under-construction power unit; no casualities

A major fire broke out at an under-construction power generation unit at nearby Karikuppam today, police said.
No casualities or injuries were reported, they said.
The fire broke out this when workers were engaged in fixing thermoplastic material in the cooling tower using welding machines.
Seven fire fighting units were battling to douse the flames, they said, adding that material worth several crores of Rupees were destroyed.
