Major rivers recede, some still flow above danger mark in UP

Major rivers in Uttar Pradesh have started receding as no fresh rainfall has been reported in the state.
According to the Central Water Commission (CWC) report, river Ganga is receding everywhere in the state but it is still flowing above danger mark at Varanasi, Ghazipur and Ballia.
Water level in river Yamuna has also gone down while Sharda is flowing above danger mark at Palliakalan (Kheri), it said, adding that rivers Rapti and Ghagra have also started receding with no fresh rains.
According to the MeT office, rain/thunder show is likely at isolated places over eastern UP.
A total of 8.7 lakh people in 987 villages in Varanasi, Allahabad, Ghazipur and Ballia are affected due to flood.
The relief and rescue operations are on and the state government has also alerted the health department to check any outbreak of disease.
