Major rivers receding gradually in UP

The flood situation registered an improvement in Uttar Pradesh where the water level in major rivers has started receding, official sources said here.
"The water level in major rivers is receding. Though many of them are still flowing above the danger mark, the flood situation is improving," sources said.
The Ganga at Ballia, Sharda at Palia Kalan (Lakhimpur), Ghaghra at Turtipar (Ballia), Rapti at Balrampur and Gorakhpur, Budhi Rapti at Kakrahi and Quano at Gonda were flowing above the danger mark, according to the office of the state relief commissioner.
The Ganga, which had been in spate at several spots, was now static at Bulandshahr, Kanpur and Rae Bareli while showing a receding trend at Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Allahabad, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Ballia and Ghazipur.
According to the MeT office, in the rainfall recorded in the state in the past 24 hours, Saharanpur-Katarnia Ghat in Bahraich) had received showers measuring 90mm followed by Pallia Kalan in Lakhimpur with 70mm.
Also, while Sharda Nagar received 50mm rainfall, Fatehpur and Bijnor 40mm each.
The forecast is for isolated rain/thundershowers in the state over the coming 24 hours.
