BJP MLA Vishnu Wagh told the Goa Legislative Assembly that the state should work towards long term financial measures to make up for the losses incurred due to halting of mining activity.
"Mining is not going to continue for posterity even if it is started now. We will have to think of alternate revenue modes," the legislator said on the floor of the House.
Wagh said entertainment industry-based economy was one of the option that Goa could look forward to.
"There are several film shootings happening in the state. The people employed for the shooting are paid much more than those in the mining industry," he said while condemning the recent decision of Corporation of Panaji city to ban film shootings here to avoid traffic congestions.
"In fact, we should create more places for film shootings which will bring in revenue for the state. We should have more facilities," he added.
The government should call for a two-day Assembly session to discuss the mining issue and a way forward for the state, he suggested.
The extraction and transportation of ore in the state was halted last year following the Supreme Court order, which is awaiting the final report from the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) on illegal mining trade in Goa.
