"The common people must feel safe and secure in their homes and fields whatever may be the occupation or status in life," Kumar said at a civic reception held in his honour, jointly organised by Kohima Municipal Council and Angami Public Organisation here.
Recalling that Naga warriors sacrificed their lives for the land and the country during World War-II, he said "We remember them with pride."
There was no reason why Nagaland could not become the most peaceful and the happiest state of the Indian union, he said.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said "The new governor is concerned for the solution of the Naga political issue."
President of Naga Hoho, the apex tribal body in the state, Keviletuo Kiewhuo, expressed hope that the new governor would work towards fulfilment of the aspirations of the Naga people.
Maintaining that the long cherished dream of the Naga people was solution to the vexed Naga political issue, he requested the governor to be the ambassador of Nagas to Delhi to find an honourable settlement of the Naga peace process.
