He was speaking to 25 officer trainees of Indian Audit and Accounts Service (2012 batch) who called on him at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
"Optimal use of public money and public resources is critical for achieving our nation's development goals and inclusive growth. This should duly and invariably take into account the best interests of Government and the people of India -- in whose name the expenditure is being incurred," Mukherjee said.
The batch comprises of 21 officer trainees selected through the Civil Service Examination conducted by the UPSC and two officer trainees -- each from Supreme Audit Institutions of Nepal and Bhutan. Among the 25 officer trainees, seven are women, it said.
