Makkal Needhi Mayyam announces Rs two lakh to bereaved family

Makkal Neethi Mayyam founder-president Kamal Haasan today announced a relief of Rs two lakh to the family of a young pregnant woman who was killed when she fell down after the two-wheeler she was riding pillion was allegedly kicked by a traffic inspector near Tiruchirappalli.
Haasan announced it at a meeting organised in connection with women's day celebrations in the city.
The incident occurred when the woman, Usha was travelling with her husband, last evening.
The inspector allegedly kicked the two-wheeler for not stopping during a helmet-check drive and the couple fell down.
Citing a study, Haasan claimed that about 3.60 crore baby girls have lost their lives in the country due to female infanticide and the incident that happened last night in Tiruchirapalli was "no different."
"In Tiruchirapalli, two lives (Usha who was four months pregnant) have been lost just in front of our eyes. Those (the policeman) who were supposed to protect justice have caused injustice," he said.

A one-minute silence led by Haasan was observed during the occasion as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
Haasan announced that the party would release a book based on its policy during the next 180 days.
"Everyone is asking what is the policy of your party. It is simple. People's welfare. We will come out with a book in the next 180 days," he said.
Claiming that ratio of women in Gujarat was 854 women as against 1,000 men, he said, the number of women should not decrease against number of men.
"If there are 1,000 men, there should be 1,000 women," he said.
