Malaika turns Mandira Wirk's romantic muse at AIFW

Runway regular Malaika Arora Khan turned muse of Delhi-based designer Mandira Wirk's Amazon India Fashion Week 2016 collection "Romancing Rococo".
Malaika, 42, who stunned in a black and beige gown, was excited to walk for her good friend.
"I have always loved Mandira's work. This collection is beautiful and the best part is its so feminine. She is good friend and a great designer. I have always admired her work and a lot of her creations are part of wardrobe.
"Apart from walking for her, I am coming back to Delhi fashion week after years. Its always a pleasure to be here," Malaika told reporters post the show.

The collection brings out the elegance and asymmetry of the 18th century artistic movement of Rococo and takes cure from the curlicues motifs and embellishments of the iconic era.
Rococo movement's art, architecture and grid work were the prime source of inspiration to which Wirk gave a modern day expression.

"My collection captures the sentiment of Rococo movement which emerged as revolution surpassing the Baroque designs. The designs are not over the top and gimmicky.
"It has very peculiar delicateness and I feels having Malaika as my muse is the best I could ask for. No one can carry of the romantic curves of Rococo as beautifully as her," the designer said.

The entire collection was created in palette of ivory and gold, black and beige as well as grey, maroon, pink, blue and red. There was a lot of interplay between sheer and opaque fabrics. Bold cut-outs and statement backs dominated the whole range.
The collection was full of easy and wearable separates ranging from constructed jackets to paneled palazzos and layered anarkali's. Highlight of the show were pre-draped nine yard sari's having both feminine touch and contemporary appeal.
