Malaria cases more in DK, Udupi

A total of over 9000 cases of malaria have been reported in the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts last year, an official release here said.
As many as 7313 cases were reported from Mangaluru city alone while 880 cases were from other parts of DK district. There were two confirmed malaria related deaths in the district in 2014 while 17 deaths were suspected to have occurred due to malaria, the release said.
The coastal districts of DK and Udupi would be given special preference while chalking out programmes to control the disease, B G Prakash, Joint Director (Malaria and Filaria) in the health department said in the release.
As part of vector control measures against malaria, bio-degradable and non-toxic insecticides would be used, he said.
