Malayalam edition of of Limca Book of Records launched

Coca Cola India today celebrated the silver jubilee of the Limca Book of Records by dedicating the 25th edition to the cause of 'Empowering Women'.
It also launched the 2014 Malayalam edition and felicitated some of Kerala's most inspiring and iconic women achievers from the state -- Dr Tessy Thomas, the first woman scientist to head the missile project in India, who was also Project Director for DRDO's Agni IV and Agni V missiles, successfully tested in 2011 and 2012.
Among others were Dr Sunitha Krishnan, human rights activist and founder of Prajwala,a pioneering anti-trafficking organisation; Surgeon Rear Admiral Nirmala Kannan, one of the few woman officers to make it Rear Admiral in the Navy.
There was also K S Chitra, who has sung over 18,000 songs in many languages including Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Bengali and Anju Bobby George, who made history when she won the bronze medal in long jump and cleared 6.70 metres at the 2003 World Athletics Championship in Paris, becoming the first Indian athlete to do so.
Dr Tessy, who was the chief guest, congratulated the Limca Book of Records for completing 25 years of showcasing India's best talent and achievements.
Dr Sunitha said she was saddened to note increasing cases of women and children not being safe in their own homes in the state.
A 'Thiruvathira' dance performance by Malathi G Menon's students, a Kathakali dance performance and a Kalaripayattu (martial art) performance by women marked the occasion.
With 20 informative chapters, the 2014 edition of the record book chronicles over 10,000 remarkable achievements, of which 6,000 new records all showcasing extraordinary feats of Indians across the globe.
Vijaya Ghose, the long serving editor of Limca Book of Records, was also present.
