Malayalam novelist Kumaran selected for Vayalar award

Eminent Malayalam novelist and short story writer U K Kumaran was today selected for this year's prestigious Vayalar award for his novel 'Thakshankunnu Swarooopam'.
The award, instituted in memory of poet and lyricist Vayalar Rama Varma, will be presented at a function here on October 27 on the lyricist's death anniversary, said Prof M K Sanu, one of the members in the award panel.
Kumaran, who is also a recipient of the Kerala Sahitiya Akademi award, said he was delighted to have been chosen for the recognition.
The award, which carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh, a silver plate and citation, is given annually to the best literary work in Malayalam, and is instituted by the Vayalar Rama Varma Memorial Trust.
