Third seed (in qualifiers) Bong packed off Indian challenger Vikas Jangra in just 22 minutes with a 11-2 11-5 11-5 scoreline, but second seed Singh had to wage a protracted battle to get his way past fighting fifth-seeded Pakistan rival Muhammad Asin Khan at the the Juhu-Vile Parle Gymmkhana.
Singh won 9-11 11-8 9-11 11-7 11-2 after a 70-minute struggle that saw some prolonged rallies and delicate drops.
In the main draw, Egyptian Zahed Mohammed is the top seed with a world ranking of 47, followed by India's Mahesh Mangaonkar (63) at no. 2, Denmark's Krisitian Frost Olesen (64) at no. 3 and India's Harinder Pal Sandhu (83) at no. 4.
Zahed takes on Indian wild card Khush Kumar in his opening round encounter, Sandhu is up against France's Arthur Moineau and Mangaonkar will clash against a qualifier.
