apparently had strayed away from Similipal sanctuary in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district was today rescued from a canal of the Subarnarekha Irrigation project by forest personnel.
The deer was sighted inside the deep water of the canal near Padmapur Deuli under Bangiriposi forest range, Baripada DFO Sanjay Swain said.
Later it was taken off the canal with the help of forest personnel, he said.
After a health check up it was released inside the sanctuary area.
Probably due to scarcity of water the deer had strayed from the sanctuary area in search of water and was trapped inside the canal, Swain claimed.
