February 7, 2012: President Nasheed resigns following a weeks of protest by opposition which was supported by majority of military and police forces. Vice-president Mohamed Waheed sworn in as president of Maldives. Feb 9, 2012: Wife and daughters of Nasheed flee to Colombo as situation worsens. A court issues an arrest order against Nasheed and his former defence minister. Feb 10, 2012: Nasheed demands fresh polls. India dispatched a top official to assess the situation. Feb 11, 2012: India asks Nasheed and his successor Waheed to resolve the complex situation peacefully and democratically. Feb 13, 2012: Nasheed's party alleges being threatened with terrorism charges by the new regime. Feb 16, 2012: New Maldivian regime comes out with a roadmap to restore peace. Proposes early elections. Feb 22, 2012: Maldives government appoints a commission to probe allegations of coup against it following Nasheed's ouster. MORE
