Police said Manmathan had been issued a notice by Iyyan thirumaligai housing board to vacate his residence after he defaulted on payments for three months. His requests that he be given some time to give the money was reportedly turned down by the officials concerned.
Following this, he shot off a letter to the Chief Minister's grievance cell, which sent it back to the board for due consideration
The board officials then asked him how he could send such a letter and reportedly threatened to throw away his utensils and belongings. Following this he attempted suicide, they said.
