Malshej ghat closed after landslide

The Malshej ghat road was closed for traffic following a landslide last evening as heavy rains continued to lash the district even today.
Asmita Nikam of the district disaster management cell said the ghat road which connects Thane with Pune would remain closed for at least three to five days as the debris was being removed.
A truck, passing through the ghat, fell into a gorge when its driver Sher Ali (40) tried to evade boulders lying on the road after the landslide.
While Ali was killed on the spot, Anil Adgale (30), his assistant, was severely injured and hospitalised.

Meanwhile, a youth drowned in Nilje river on Nilje-Diva road near Shil Phata in the district yesterday.
The body was fished out but is yet to be identified.
