Addressing a public meeting here during her two-day tour of tribal Jangalmahal, Banerjee flagged off a number of development projects which included among others 'Sabuj Sathi Scheme' for students, drinking water treatment plant, sanitation and healthcare projects.
Banerjee said that despite non-cooperation from the Centre, her government was continuing with all development projects earmarked for Jangalmahal region from its own resources.
Listing the number of development projects completed and ongoing during her regime, Banerjee said, "We believe in working for people. Those who do not work always keep themselves busy in bogus activities."
The projects inaugurated by the chief minister also included among Sabuj Dweep Eco Tourism Park, fair price medicine shops, parks, hostels for boys and girls, rickshaw stands, ambulances, roads, godowns, irrigation projects and administrative building at Simplipal police station, besides a police station at the pilgrim town of Tarapith.
Banerjee, who was accompanied by a delegation of officials led by Chief Secretary Sanjay Mitra, earlier presided over administrative meetings to take stock of developments in the district.
The Chief Minister also distributed cycles under Sabuj Sathi scheme and gave away certificates for Kanyashree (scheme for improving the status and well being of girl child), Yuvashree (financial assistance scheme for the unemployed youth) and other schemes, besides giving away land pattas, tribal musical instruments dhamsa and madol, identity cards for folk artists, machines and equipment for farmers and artisans, and a slew of other benefits.
