West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today urged people to raise awareness levels regarding autism.
"Today is World Autism Awareness Day. Let us work towards spreading awareness about autism, and vow to treat autistic people with sensitivity," Banerjee wrote on her Twitter handle.
She also said that the state government was looking forward to building the country's first autism township.
"Bengal is committed to building India's first autism township," she tweeted.
The proposed township is likely to come up on 50 acres of land in Shirakole on Diamond Harbour Road in South 24 Parganas district.
