Amid the hullabaloo over alleged plastic eggs being sold in the state, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today assured people that they can safely consume eggs produced in the state.
"There is no problem in eggs produced in Bengal. Eat them without worry. Only check while purchasing whether the eggs are produced in Bengal," Banerjee said while addressing a public meeting here in Midnapore West district.
"We are conducting tests on those which are coming from outside the state. The tests are yet to be completed. Till now we did not have got any reports of anything wrong in them," she said.
"As per my information, this was spread by somebody who is not a resident of West Bengal. I have asked for a probe. If its a rumour I will not allow anyone to continue it," she said.
She questioned the justification of selling plastic eggs, the production cost of which was higher than eggs produced at poultry farms.
Banerjee also said that she has asked poultry foundation in the state to put up a notice 'Bengal eggs' while selling eggs produced in the state.
