West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said her government is seriously working towards controlling the spread of Swine Flu infection in the state.
"We are initiating immediate action to arrest the spread of the disease. It is our social commitment," Banerjee said expressing concern over the threat posed by the rapid spread of the disease in several states, which has claimed many lives across the country.
"There is nothing to be panicky in the state, the situation will improve soon," she said.
With six cases of swine flu reported in West Bengal till yesterday, the total number of infected cases in the state has climbed to 42, while the disease has claimed two lives in the state so far.
Director of West Bengal Health Services (WBHS) Biswaranjan Satpathy said "All these cases have been reported from the metropolis," adding there was no report of any death in the last 48 hours.
"Six persons have tested positive for the virus, including a pregnant woman. Nobody is critical," he had said.
There were, however, no reports of anybody getting infected with the H1N1 virus in the districts, Satpathy said.
