West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today mourned the death of Nelson Mandela saying "he was an icon of anti-apartheid, who devoted his entire life to fight against injustice and racial discrimination."
"I am deeply pained to know that Nelson Mandela is no more. His passing away is a huge loss to humanity, to whom he was more than a fatherly figure," Banerjee said, paying tribute to the South African leader, in a social media post.
"His lifelong struggle and sacrifice will be the source of inspiration for generations, now and for ever. India had always co-operated with him in the Non Aligned Movement.
"I am personally very touched. I remember to have met his daughter during an International Youth Conference in Delhi," the Chief Minister said.
"My deepest condolence to the members of the bereaved family. May the brave soul rest in eternal peace," she said.
