Mamata condoles Bijoya Ray's death
Press Trust of India Kolkata West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today condoled the death of Bijoya Ray, wife of legendary film director Satyajit Ray, describing her as a bridge between two generations of filmmakers - Satyajit and his son Sandip.
"I express my deepest condolence at the demise of Bijoya Ray, the wife of eminent personality and legendary film director Satyajit Ray," Banerjee said in a message.
"Bijoya Ray passed away at a private nursing home in the city this evening. As the wife of Satyajit Ray and mother of Sandip Ray, she was the real bridge between two generations of film directors," she said.
Mamata Banerjee said "other than films, Bijoya Ray had a special interest for western classical music. Her demise is an irreparable loss not only to the Ray family but all of us. I convey my sympathies to the bereaved family and pray that her soul rest in peace," said Banerjee.
