The Mamata Banerjee Government has constructed a total of 1,34,884 dwelling units during the past four years of its rule against 32,340 constructed by the erstwhile Left Front government in its long 34 years rule.
Replying to the debate on budgetary demands for grant of his department for 2015-16, state Housing minister Aroop Biswas described this as a major success of the government in the interest of people.
The expenditure incurred by the TMC government during the last four years was Rs 1797.79 crore, nearly eight times of the expenditure of Rs 222.28 crore incurred by the erstwhile LF government during their last four years, Biswas said.
Even as there was a fixed target for construction of 42,000 dwelling units for the 2014-15 fiscal, the state government had approved 42,532 dwelling units during the said financial year, the minister said.
Accusing the erstwhile LF government of its misrule, the minister said lack of proper planning by the LF was the reason behind failure to rehabilitate a large number of families displaced due to industrialisation and urbanisation.
The Mamata Banerjee government has a target for constructing 65,000 dwelling units under the 'Gitanjali' Housing Scheme for the 2015-16 fiscal, Biswas said.
The state government has also decided to set up 15 'Adarsh Gram' during 2015-16 primarily in 15 schedule caste population dominated villages throughout the state by undertaking overall infrastructure development activities like housing, water, light, drainage, roads and other necessary services, he said.
The state government has undertaken an investment of Rs 890.45 crore during 2015-16 to complete various programmes in the interest of the people, which the previous LF government never thought of, the minister added.
