West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today met Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and discussed the ongoing urban development projects in her state.
Banerjee asked Naidu about the ongoing proceedings in Parliament and also discussed the implementation of the urban development projects in West Bengal sanctioned under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, which came to an end on March 31, 2014. She also enquired about the launching of a new urban development mission, according to an official present during the meeting.
The meeting took place at Naidu's chamber in Parliament House and lasted for about 15 minutes, sources said.
They said that Banerjee came to Naidu's chamber without sending any prior information only to find that the Parliamentary Affairs Minister was outside to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Chief Minister was accompanied by TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee.
However, after a message was sent, Naidu returned to his chamber, sources added.
"I am sorry I have come without prior appointment as you are my old friend," Banerjee told Naidu who, in turn, responded, "you are my sister and don't need any appointment. You have the liberty of coming any time".
Banerjee said she could not meet Naidu during his recent visit to Kolkata as she was away attending party meetings and had, therefore, deputed her minister to meet him.
