Mamata returns from UK trip

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee returned here today after an eight-day trip to the UK where she attended a series of meetings with business tycoons and unveiled a plaque at social worker Sister Nivedita's London home.
Banerjee landed at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport this evening and headed straight to her residence.
Banerjee had gone to London at the invitation of 'The English Heritage' which installed the Blue Plaque at the family home of Sister Nivedita, a follower of Swami Vivekananda, at Wimbledon area on Sunday last to commemorate her 150th birth anniversary in recognition of her contribution to social work in Kolkata.
Besides her formal engagements, Banerjee had also met UK-based steel tycoon Lakshmi N Mittal and held meetings with some of the UK enterprises including PwC, Standard Chartered Bank, Oxford University and British Telecom.
She also went to Scotland for talks with the Scottish Development Investment (SDI) among others in Edinburgh.
