West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today scotched media speculation that the state government might seek advancement of the poll to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation alarmed over the growth of the BJP and ruled out replacing Mayor Sobhan Chatterjee in the event of TMC's win.
"Some (media) are writing that the election will be preponed. Some are writing it would held later than the schedule. Setting at rest all this, I want to say none of your calculations would be right. Election would be held at the (appropriate) time.
"We still have a lot of (development) work to do in the meantime (for the citizens of Kolkata)" Banerjee told a party workers meeting at Pailan in South 24 paraganas district.
"If we win, he (Sobhan Chatterjee) will again be the Mayor because if anyone works, none can stop him", Banerjee said.
The poll to 81 civic bodies, including the KMC, is scheduled for next year.
The poll are described as the semi-final before the 2016 Assembly polls in the state.
The TMC had won two-thirds majority in the 141-ward Kolkata Municipal Corporation polls in 2010, inflicting a crushing blow to the then ruling Left Front.
During the Lok Sabha polls held earlier this year, the BJP had polled 17.5 per cent votes in the state.
