While Delhi and some other regions are suffering from the double blows of heat wave and long power cuts, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today noted that her state West Bengal was enjoying an uninterrupted power supply and was in a position to provide power on demand.
"During the present scorching summer heat, many parts of the country continue to suffer for long stretches of loadshedding. But in Bengal, loadshedding is now a forgotten term," the Chief Minister said in a Facebook post.
"Due to rapid improvement in efficiency in our state power sector, people of Bengal are now getting 24x7 power supply," Banerjee said.
"Bengal now is in a position to provide power on demand. We have introduced banking of power to suitably utilise the surplus power after our own requirements are fulfilled," she said.
"We are committed to the people of Bengal and do our best for them," Banerjee said, rebutting criticism of her government by the Opposition.
As the mercury hovered over 45 degrees Celsius in New Delhi, protest-demonstrations have been witnessed in the Capital over long hours of power cuts.
