She also promised that there will no forcible acquiring of land in the state under the Trinamool Congress' rule.

Speaking about the attempt by police to take possession of earthmoving equipment of DVC Emta Coal Mines which led to the clash, Banerjee said, "The incident was unfortunate. It was not right on the part of the police."

She said that the superintendent of police and the officer-incharge of Dubrajpur police station were removed and an inquiry was in progress.

Banerjee asked the new SP whether the OC was still functioning and ordered his removal.

Reiterating that her government would not acquire land forcibly, she said, "This is a 2009 project of the Left Front era. The government will not acquire land anywhere and will give clearance only if land procured (by companies) is done willingly and transparently."

She said the state government would give Rs 25,000 as compensation each to the six injured of whom three were still in hospital. The compensation would be handed over by the SP.

Banerjee's rally was held amid tight security some 500 metres from the dharna manch of the Krishi Jami Raksha Committee (Save Agricultural land), demanding negotiations between farmers and DVC-Emta in the presence of government representatives.

"The land belongs to you, whatever be the quantum. It is you who will decide what to do with the land. If you want to sell the land for industry, then fix up the price and negotiate with buyers. Government will not play the role of middleman."
