Another Malayalam superstar, Mohanlal's facebook post and twitter handle has a photo of Jayalalithaa and a one line message: "Rest in Peace."
"Iron lady of TN who gave us hope to have prime ministerial candidate from TN is no more with us," said R Sarath Kumar in his Twitter message.
"And a fighter to the end. Leaves a great vacuum in people's heart, but leaves a piece of her in everyone who met her. You inspire all #RIP," she said.

Popular playback singer Chinmayi Sripada said, "And just like that, she is gone. A lady who would always be an inspiration. Matchless and peerless. I wish she finds true happiness and mukti wherever she has reached. Adieu Ma'am. I didn't think I'd see this day this soon and that she wouldn't even see her 70th birthday."
Expressing shock, popular Tamil actor Ajith Kumar said: "She had fought many battles and stood tall among the leaders of our times."
Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha said, "I remember her smiling face, on the other hand I feel sad for her demise. Since she was from our family (the film industry), it makes me incredibly sad."
"She was a wonderful leader. A wonderful woman. I have never seen such a deep connect of a leader (with people). I have seen people's love for her. You could see their grief when she was hospitalised. Seldom are there (leaders) with such amazing connect," actor Paresh Rawal said.
