Man arrested for assaulting, robbing a cop

A man, who allegedly assaulted an on-duty policeman and robbed his mobile phone, has been arrested, police said today.
The Anti Snatching Cell of Crime Branch arrested Azad (30) from Shastri Nagar Metro Station yesterday and recovered the stolen mobile from him.
Police said during interrogation, Azad said on the night of June 18, he had seen some boys and a woman beating up a policeman near Kishan Ganj Barat Ghar here.
He had joined the group in assaulting the cop and in the process robbed the officer's mobile phone before fleeing from the spot, police said.
As per the complaint registered by the cop, Constable Vijender Singh posted at Sarai Rohilla police station, he was on patrolling duty near Kishan Ganj Railway colony here when he had seen a youth sitting on a motorcycle in a suspicious condition.
When asked to produce registration documents of the two-wheeler, the boy said he will ask someone from his family to bring it and had made a call to someone, the officer had said in his complaint.

Meanwhile, Constable Singh had called up the police control room which told him the bike was stolen and he had then asked the youth to accompany him to the police station.
Just then some boys and a woman had arrived there. They beat him up and fled the spot before police backup arrived, the constable said in his complaint.
A team was constituted to investigate the matter and they had received information that one of the persons allegedly involved in the assault of the policeman would arrive at Shastri Nagar metro station, police said, adding the special team laid a trap and arrested Azad from the spot.
