Man arrested for cheating victims seeking jobs

Luck ran out for Arun Bhanot when he landed in police net in central Delhi's Baljeet Nagar following probe into a complaint filed by one Sushil Sharma that his father paid the accused Rs 1.7 lakh for a job but was given a fake appointment letter.

"In this case, Bhanot allegedly gave an assurance of providing job in a government bank by using fake letter head of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Ministry," Additional Commissioner of Police (Central) Devesh Chandra Srivastava said.

Sharma's father had come in contact with Bhanot through a common friend.

"Bhanot posed himself to be an influential person having contacts with ministers. Sharma's father asked him to facilitate job for his son Sushil. On this, he demanded Rs 1.70 lakh and the amount was paid.

"The accused then offered an appointment letter in government sector bank with the letter head of senior government officials. The complainant went to the Department from where the offer letter was issued and it was learnt that it was fake," Srivastava said.

When confronted, he said, Bhanot paid back Rs 70,000 in two instalments and assured him to pay remaining amount at the earliest. Despite of many visits and requests, the accused did not return the money and changed his residence.

Following this, Sharma approached police and Bhanot was arrested.

"He told us that he used to be a reporter and knew the functioning and procedures government. He was in dire need of money. He prepared the fake letter heads of government and projected himself as an influential person in the locality," Srivastava said.

Bhanot was previously involved in a case of cheating.
