Man arrested for extortion bid on former Bihar Speaker

A man was arrested today for allegedly demanding Rs 15 lakh as extortion money from former Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker and Congress legislator from Kahalgaon constituency, Sadanand Singh.
An FIR was lodged by Sadanand in this connection with the Antichak police station, following which police tracked the mobile numbers from which extortion calls were made to the legislator and arrested a man named Niranjan Sah of Nawada village in Bhagalpur district, DSP Neeraj Kumar Singh said.
The accused had asked the legislator to put money in an unnumbered autorickshaw at Par Chowk near the Bus Stand in Bhagalpur, the DSP said, adding the police is trying to trace the autorickshaw and its driver.
During interrogation, Sah revealed the identity of his two other accomplices and police are carrying out raids to nab them, the DSP said.
Sadanand has alleged that the criminals had called him last night and also in the morning today and asked him to pay Rs 15 lakh, threatening to harm him.
