Man arrested for rape attempt on minor in Kashmir

A man was today held for allegedly attempting to rape a minor girl after protests broke out demanding his arrest in south Kashmir's Kulgam district
Tariq Ahmad Dar, a resident of Bugam village in Kulgam, was arrested this morning after locals complained that he had tried to molest a minor girl in his neighbourhood yesterday, Kulgam Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shafi Mir told PTI.
The incident led to minor protests in the village with locals demanding Dar's arrest.
"Locals complained about the incident to the police yesterday. A police team was deputed to the hospital where the girl had been admitted for medical check-up.

"Based on her complaint, the team raided the house of Dar, who by then had fled from the spot," Mir said.
Police detained Dar's brother for questioning, but later set him free, he said.
"This morning we arrested Dar and are now waiting for the medical report," Mir said.
