Accused Rama Krishna, a construction worker, was arrested from Peddagudem village of the district after police found the girl's body from an under-construction building in the village, they said.
Police said that on the night of December 10, the accused lured the girl, a lower kindergarten student, by offering chocolates when the victim had approached her father for the same near their house.
Rama Krishna, police said, took the victim to a nearby building and allegedly raped her and then smothered her to death, Wanaparthy Circle Inspector N Venkateshwarlu said.
Police registered a case charging the accused with rape and murder. Relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) were also invoked, police said.
