A man has been arrested for allegedly holding two sisters captive and raping one of them in an ashram in Igrah village of the district, police said today.
As per the complaint lodged by the victim, she and her younger sister had gone to Varanasi in search of a job on April 10, where she met the accused, identified as Gaurishankar, police said.
On April 11, the accused on the pretext of giving them job, took them to Sadhu ashram in Igrah village of Jind, where his brother Manishanand is a priest, who allegedly aided the accused in the crime, they said.
Gaurishankar allegedly raped the complainant's younger sister for three days in a room at the ashram and thrashed the duo when they resisted. He even threatened to kill them if they divulged the incident to anybody, police said.
The accused then left for Allahabad with the two sisters, during which the complainant informed the Railway police, Allahabad on phone with the help of a co-passenger, they said.
Allahabad Railway police nabbed Gaurishankar and registered a zero FIR against him and Manishanand under relevant sections of the IPC, which they have forwarded to Sadar Thana police, Jind.
A zero FIR, alleging rape and assault, has been received in this connection, Sadar Thana police In-charge Sajjan Singh said, adding the culprit would soon be taken on protection warrant and questioned.
When contacted, Sadhu ashram director Swami Suryanand Saraswati said, "The accused had stayed at the ashram, saying the two women were his wife and sister-in-law. Since he is the brother of the ashram priest, nobody suspected him.
