Police has arrested a man for running a fake movers and packers company and stealing household articles of customers on the pretext of transporting their luggage to their destination in southwest Delhi's Dwarka area.
On November 12, police received a complaint from Mohd Moeen, a retired assistant commandant from RPF stating that his son Mohd Asif, a Delhi University professor had engaged the services of a movers and packers company for shifting of his household articles to Assam but the company representatives were unreachable.
"Asif was transferred to Central University, Tejpur in Assam from DU, and had hired a company to transport his household articles to Assam. Asif had contacted an online directory portal to provide him few numbers of packers and movers.
"He started receiving calls from a person who introduced himself to be the director of 'Gati International Movers and Packers'. On October 2, all the household articles were taken away by persons belonging to the company which never reached the destination. The mobile numbers were also found switched off," said Surender Kumar, DCP (Southwest).
A team was formed and the accused, identified as Gajender Singh (29) was apprehended from Noida Sec-49, said the officer.
"During interrogation, Gajender confessed about his involvement and all household articles of the complainant were recovered from his possession. He also revealed that he contacted customers on their mobile numbers which he obtains from the online directory portal. He revealed that he often used to unpack one or more articles from the consignment and used to sell them," added Kumar.
