A 59-year-old man who allegedly used to arrange fake VISAs on forged documents for his clients to travel overseas, has been arrested, police said today.
The accused, Prahlad Sharma, a native of Dinarpur village in Rajasthan, was a proclaimed offender in a case registered at the IGI Airport police station here.
Sharma was being chased by the police for more than three years after one of his associates was arrested, DCP (IGI Airport) D K Gupta said.
During interrogation, Sharma told the police that in 2012, labour VISA for Afghanistan were stopped by concerned authorities in several nations, leading to a steep rise of migrant labour demand at Afghanistan, said police.
Owing to the crisis, Sharma and his associate started trapping jobless villagers from Rajasthan and started arranging fake VISAs for them to travel to Afghanistan via Dubai, on forged documents and charged a hefty amount for the deal, said police.
Later, he allegedly started arranging VISAs for some other nations too. He was arrested by a special team which is tracking down proclaimed offenders, police added.
