The victim, an 18-year-old woman, was found lying in a pool of blood in a field, barely a few meters away from her house last morning when she had gone to fetch water.
The accused, who was the victim's neighbour, had allegedly attacked her as he was upset about her marriage with someone else, police said.
During interrogation, the accused confessed that they had heated argument when they met yesterday over her marriage preparation, they said.
"The victim did not agree to elope with him from home, which led to an argument. In a fit of rage he assaulted her with a brick," a senior police officer said.

During the investigation, police found that the victim was in regular touch with the accused which raised suspicion on his.
"When he was quizzed, he broke down and confessed his crime. He wanted to marry the victim but was upset with her family's plan to marry her with someone else," a senior police officer said.
The accused was pursuing graduation through distant learning and used to operate a small time grocery store in the same area.
