Man arrested with gold worth Rs 18 lakh at Delhi airport

A man has been arrested by custom officials at airport here for allegedly trying to smuggle in gold biscuits worth about Rs 18 lakh, officials said today.
Acting on an intelligence input, the accused was intercepted yesterday after his arrival from Dubai here.
"On detailed examination of his baggage, nothing objectionable was found. But on his personal search, six gold biscuits weighing 700 gm (approx), which he had concealed in his rectum, were recovered," a press release issued by the custom department said.
The gold was seized and the man arrested, it said.
"The total value of the gold biscuits is assessed to Rs 18.52 lakh," the release said.
The accused, who is in his late 30s, hails from Nagpur in Maharashtra, custom officials said, declining to divulge further details.

On July 13, a man was arrested at IGI airport for allegedly trying to smuggle in gold jewellery worth about Rs 25 lakh.
The accused, who had also arrived from Dubai, was a native of Bhatkal in Karnataka.
A week before, a Tamil Nadu resident was arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle in gold bars valuing at about Rs 40 lakh by hiding it in his lower abdomen at the international airport.
The custom officials had on June 20 also arrested a Sri Lankan national for allegedly trying to smuggle in gold bars worth about Rs 57 lakh.
