A man has been asked to pay Rs 25,000 maintenance per month to his estranged wife and minor son by a Delhi court which also directed him not to commit any act of domestic violence against the woman or contact them.
Metropolitan Magistrate Ruchi Aggarwal Asrani said there was no reason to disbelieve the woman's testimony in which she had alleged that the man used to harass and taunt her and also demanded dowry.
"The woman has deposed that the respondent (man) used to harass and taunt her and even demand dowry. The testimony of the woman has remained unrebutted, uncontroverted and unchallenged. Therefore, there is no reason to disbelieve her testimony.
"In these circumstances, the man is directed not to commit any act of domestic violence upon the woman. The man is further prohibited from entering the school/college/work place of the woman and the minor son.
"The man is also prohibited from communicating with the woman in any form including personal, oral, written, electronic or telephonic contact," the court said.
The court passed an ex-parte order after the man stopped appearing before it. It said the woman's version has not been challenged by the man and she was entitled to a monthly maintenance of Rs 25,000 for herself and her minor son.
