Das (45) from Chhatrapur in Ganjam district was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital as his condition deteriorated in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
"The patient has sustained deep multiple injuries in his neck, back and hands. He is in a critical condition and admitted in surgery department of the hospital," said the hospital emergency officer B N Moharana.
Meanwhile, the zoo staff, who are now supervising the treatment of Das since Friday, have expressed surprise as no family member of Das has yet turned up to the hospital looking for him even as they were informed about the incident.
Das had jumped into the lion enclosure on Friday afternoon in an apparent attempt to commit suicide. When he regained senses for a brief period in the Cuttack hospital, he told some waiting media men that he had visited the zoo with a purpose to end his life.
