The attacker identified as 23-year-old Saurabh was nabbed by the bystanders who thrashed him up before he managed to escape. He was, however, arrested a few hours after the incident.
The victim suffered injuries on her face, which police said were comparatively minor in nature and she was discharged from hospital after the first aid.
"The accused and the victim's 22-year-old sister were known to each other as they had previously worked together at a factory in Mundka. The accused liked the girl, but she did not show any interest in him. He would even follow her when she returned from work every day," a senior police officer said.
"The accused was trying to get the victim's mobile number from her family but has been unsuccessful. He revisited her house on Thursday evening and sought her phone number, but was turned away and warned by the family not to stalk her ever again," said the officer.

Saurabh instead of returning home waited near her home and intercepted the victim when she came out of her house to visit the local market an hour later. He attacked her with the blade when she refused to give the number.
"But before the police arrived, he managed to flee and was arrested later," the officer said.
