A 55-year-old woman was axed to death allegedly by her son during a quarrel at Ichdra village under Jadugora police station in East Singhbhum district today, police said.
Preliminary reports suggest that 35-year-old Kati had asked his voter ID card from his mother to cast his vote in the Panchayat poll, which was held today.
A quarrel began as his mother, Kaushalia, could not find the ID card. In a fit of rage, Kati picked up an axe and hit her, police said.
A seriously injured Kaushalia died on way to hospital.
The accused was absconding, police said.
