Metropolitan Magistrate Jagminder Singh released the convict, South West Delhi resident Dilip Kumar, after sentencing him to three months and 25 days in prison and setting it off against the equal term that he had undergone during the trial.

The court showed leniency to Dilip as he pleaded guilty to the offence.

"The court comes to the conclusion that convict is a poor person and has apologised for his guilt, therefore, in view of reformative theories of punishment, a lenient view is taken against him.

"Convict Dilip Kumar is sentenced in this case with simple imprisonment for the period which he had already undergone during his custody," the court said.

The court's order came on a First Information Report lodged by police on the complaint of Dr Vipin Talwar of a Dwarka-based hospital, stating that two monitors and one LCD TV had gone missing from the hospital between April 2011 to June 2012.

During the trial, the police had deposed before the court that in July 2012 they had recovered one of the stolen monitors from the possession of the accused.
