The Mumbai Police this evening detained a 35-year-old man for allegedly making a hoax call, warning of a 'chemical attack' during the Gujarat Assembly polls.
"The man, who hailed from Mira Road locality in neighbouring Thane district, had called the office of National Investigation Agency here saying that there would be a chemical attack during the Gujarat election," a senior police official said.
According to the official, during questioning, the accused told police that he made the hoax call to frame up another person with whom he had enmity.
A case under section 182 (giving false information to public servant) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Gamdevi police station, the official said, adding a probe was underway.
Voting for the second and final phase of the Gujarat polls will take place on December 14.
