Gareeb Dass, resident of Shahabad village under Sadar police Batala died of consuming hooch today while two persons were referred to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital at Amritsar, Sukhdeep Singh, Senior Medical Officer (SMO), Civil Hospital, Batala said.
The SMO said Dass was brought dead to civil hospital this morning after his relatives alleged that he had died of consuming hooch in the village last night.
Singh said another affected person, Onkar Singh, a resident of Jauda Singha village, located close to the Johal Nangal village where nine persons died of consuming hooch recently, was admitted in the Civil hospital after he complained of irritation in his eyes.
Onkar was further referred to Guru Nanak Dev hospital at Amritsar, he said.
Four persons, including a migrant labourer, yesterday died here after consuming illicit liquor.
Meanwhile, police have conducted surprise raids on the hideouts of illicit liquor sellers and arrested seven persons including three women and recovered huge quantity of illicit liquor.
