Fifty six-year-old Tara Dutt Joshi, a resident of Mukteshwar was being taken to Haldwani for treatment, died after getting stuck in a jam for nearly three hours on Sunday, SSP Janmejay Khanduri said today.
The unrelenting jam due to excessive traffic proved to be fatal for Joshi who suffered from breathing problems, he said.
The prolonged traffic snarl was caused by the huge rush of tourists on the first weekend after Diwali, the SSP said.
We were helpless in the face of the traffic jam, the deceased's son Bhaskar Joshi said.
"Even the traffic police could not move the jam. The onlookers tried their best but luck was not on our side," he added.
